diet that worksWith innumerable diet programs and various diet specialists and celebrities touting them, it’s almost impossible to decide which suits you best when you finally get serious about losing weight. One group of diet experts stress “low fat” while another group declares that “low calories” are the key to weight loss. Joining the fray are self-proclaimed authorities who have virtually declared a total ban on carbohydrates. Other diets appear to be a blend or a fusion of two or more diets.   So you may well ask yourself: Which diet is actually effective? And which is best suited for me?

When deciding which program is best for you, the most important consideration is whether it can guide you towards healthy eating based on principles of good nutrition. It is regrettable that many diets claiming fantastic results employ strategies that are not backed by sound nutrition. These programs, better known as fad diets, promote unhealthy eating habits that can prove injurious to your body.

When a diet plan that claims quick results seems to be working for you in the short term, don’t be misled into thinking that at last you have found the answer to your weight problem. You eventually wake up to the fact that sticking to the diet forever is simply impossible. The point is you’re not looking for a diet program just to lose weight; you want one that will not only help you lose weight but also keep it from coming back. It is indeed possible to lose weight after just a few days on one of these fad diets, but before long you’ll find that the pounds you lost have made a comeback. There simply is no short-cut to achieving prmanent weight loss, so be smart and find a diet program that can help you accomplish this goal slowly but surely.

If you’re like me, you would like to find an effective weight loss program without a lot of huffing and puffing and sweating – in a word, exercise. Sorry, but exercise is essential to attaining and maintaining weight loss. No doubt about it.

These are the questions to ask when you’re about to engage in a weight loss program: Will it help me lose weight by teaching me sound nutrition and healthy eating habits?  Can I sustain my commitment to this diet in the long haul? Lastly, is the plan a good mix of healthy eating and exercise?

Evaluate a weight loss program on the basis of these requirements, and you can’t go wrong in picking the right one. A final word: make it a point to see your physician before embarking on a weight loss program.
